There’s a timeless belief that true love transcends all boundaries, even death.

  • But… how true is this claim? 🤔
  • What does the bible says it? 🙄
  • And… what are the scriptures to support husband and wife reunion in heaven? 🤷‍♀️

When it comes to the reunion of a husband and wife in heaven, it’s a topic that has stirred the hearts and minds of people for centuries.

This timeless question is so important that even the Sadducees asked Jesus this difficult question.

19 Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man is to marry his brother’s widow and raise up offspring for him.

20 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died, leaving no children.

21 Then the second one married the widow, but he also died and left no children. And the third did likewise.

22 In this way, none of the seven left any children. And last of all, the woman died.

23 In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be? For all seven were married to her.”

24 Jesus said to them, “Aren’t you mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?

25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage. Instead, they will be like the angels in heaven.

Mark 12:19:25

I love the way Jesus responded to this question and it show us that indeed they will be a resurrection and an afterlife, but in this afterlife, there is no marriage or given into marriage between man and women as we know it today. But we will be like the angels.

Are you telling me that I won’t be reunited with my spouse in heaven?

No, in fact, the Bible teaches that we will all be together in the presence of our God.

This means that if your spouse is in heaven and you make it into heaven then you will be reunited with your spouse in heaven, but not in the capacity of being married to your spouse as you were married on earth.

That said, here are some scriptures to support the reunion of loved ones in heaven:

“Now that he is dead, why should I fast (i.e. mourn)? … I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”

2 Samuel 12:23

Moreover, many people find solace in the idea that their love story will continue beyond the physical realm, where they’ll be reunited with their soulmate once again.

And while this may not be so in one sense, as we would not be given into marriage in heaven; in another sense, there is still hope, because we will indeed reunited and live in eternity with our spouses and loved ones who have made it into heaven.

And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus

Ephesians 2:6

So far we have only touched the surface of this intriguing topic, so, for this reason, we’ll explore even deeper the Bible verses that speak to the beauty and power of God’s eternal love in us and how it can provide hope and comfort to those who have lost their beloved spouse who are in heaven.

So, without further ado, let us delve into the scriptures about husband and wife reunited in heaven.

Husband and Wife Reunited in Heaven Bible Verse

What does the Bible say about husbands and wives being reunited in heaven?

The Bible did not say that husbands and wives won’t be reunited in heaven, in fact, everyone who makes it to heaven will reunite.

But will spouse share the same relationship with each other in heaven as they did while they were married on earth?

The short answer is NO. Instead, we will be like the agnels that neither married or are given into marriage.

Is it wrong to want to be reunited with my spouse in heaven?

It’s not wrong if you want to be reunited with your spouse in heaven, it’s perfectly normal, and providing both of you make it into heaven, you will reunite with your spouse in heaven.

Keep in mind that we are guided by what the bible says, and it says that we will be like the angels. This means that we won’t be married to our spouse in heaven.

Is there any biblical basis for the belief that husbands and wives will be reunited in heaven?

Yes, there are several biblical passages that suggest the possibility of husbands and wives being reunited in heaven.

Some people argue that the Bible says we won’t be married in heaven, and therefore we will never see our spouses again.

But this is not all true.

Don’t believe people who share this absolute view. Indeed, Jesus said that we will not marry or be given into marriage in heaven. But He never said we won’t see our spouses again.

This is not what he meant in Mark 12:25, Matthew 22:30, or Luke 20. The verses that people use to justify their arguments against being reunited with your spouse in heaven.

Moreover, the institution of marriage was ordained by God only for this life, and not for heaven.

The reason is because in heaven we will never be alone, and we won’t need a spouse to console us, the Lord himself will do this.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Revelation 21:4-8

That said, marriage was ordained for three prime reasons:

1. For comfort, so God said:

“And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”

Genesis 2:18

In heaven, in the presence of the God we will not be alone like Adam was before he was married to Eve.

The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 4:17 that we will forever be with the Lord.

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 4:17).

This being so, there would be no need for comfort from our spouse.

2. For procreation, so God said:

“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it…”

Genesis 1:28

The simple fact that no death would be in heaven means there is no need for procreation, and therefore marriage will no longer be necessary to carry on the human race.

This is what Jesus meant when He said, “At the resurrection (when we are given new bodies) people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven” (Matthew 22:30).

But this verse has nothing to do with the question of being reunited in heaven with our loved ones.

After King David’s infant son died, David knew that after his own death they would be reunited: “Now that he is dead, why should I fast (i.e. mourn)? … I will go to him, but he will not return to me” (2 Samuel 12:23).

3. To reflect God’s love for his people and Christ’s love for the church

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”

Ephesians 5:25

Here in Ephesians we are encouraged to love our wife the way Christ loves the church, thus demonstrating the love of God in this world.

Thank God for His promises, knowing that in Christ we have hope of heaven.

Thank God also that someday we will be reunited with those who have left earth before us and have entered heaven to be with Christ.

But most of all, thank God that we too will be in heaven for eternity with Christ. Praise God.

Here are some scriptures to support loved ones, husbands and wives reunion in heaven:

In 2 Samuel 12:23 “Now that he is dead, why should I fast (i.e. mourn)? … I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”

And in 1 Corinthians 15:35-58, the apostle Paul writes about the resurrection of the dead and the transformation of our bodies into spiritual bodies.

“Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 4:17).

Husband and Wife Reunited in Heaven Bible Verse

Will I be married to my earthly spouse in heaven?

No, Jesus says in Matthew 22:30 that in the resurrection, people will neither marry nor be given into marriage, but shall be like the angels of God in heaven.

Some may interpret this to mean that there will be no marriage in heaven, while others believe that it simply means that marriage won’t be necessary for the same way that it is on earth.

Either way, We will be reunited in heaven with our spouse and loved ones who make it into heaven. Praise God, thank you Jesus.

If we aren’t married in heaven, what will our relationship with our spouse be like?

Again, the Bible says that there will be no marriageof man and woman in heaven. However, there are several passages that suggest that our relationships with other believers in heaven will be close and intimate.

For example, Revelation 21:3-4 describes God dwelling with his people and wiping away every tear from their eyes.

This suggests a close and loving relationship between God and his people, which could extend to our relationships with our spouses (we will not onow them as our spouse) and other believers.

So why did the Bible in Genesis 2:24 says we are one with our spouse?

In this context, it’s possible to interpret the phrase “one flesh” in Genesis 2:24 as referring not just to the union of a husband and wife on earth, but also to their eternal union in heaven. But the verse says in clearly “one flesh” and there is no flesh in heaven. This means that this verse speaks of our relationship with our spouse on earth, not in heaven.

What can I do to be reunited with my spouse in heaven?

The most important thing you can do to be reunited with your spouse in heaven is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

By placing your faith in Jesus and accepting his gift of salvation, you can be assured of spending eternity in heaven with your loved ones.

Conclusion

Witnessing the reunion of a husband and wife in heaven is a beautiful and heartwarming reminder of the power of love that transcends even death.

As believers, we can take comfort in the promise of eternal life and the hope of one day being reunited with our loved ones who have gone before us.

In 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, the Apostle Paul describes the ultimate reunion of all believers with the Lord: “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.”
