What does the Bible say about surgery?

The Bible has no direct mention of the word “surgery.” However, circumcision and castration are mentioned in Genesis 17:10-11 and Deuteronomy 32:2, and both are considered surgical operations.

1. Isaiah 41:10

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.”

  • Health issues as a child of God don’t mean God has forsaken your friend.
  • God has allowed and is using the situation to push your friend closer to him.
  • Take courage and remember that this health issue isn’t unto death, but God is using it to push your friend into divine destiny.

7. Isaiah 40:29-31(KJV)

 

“He giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.”​

  • Is your friend feeling weak and getting weaker with every passing day?
  • If your answer is yes to this question, then Isaiah 40:29-31 is speaking to your friend.
  • It says that God will give us power when we feel like giving up and strength when we don’t feel like having the energy to do anything.
  • God has committed Himself to help us to the extent where our strength will surpass that of the youth.
  • But your friend will need patience because our strength comes from the Lord and as your friend waits on the Lord; He will strengthen your friend.
  • Isaiah 40:29-31 is an ideal scripture for a friend before surgery; I encourage you to tell your friend to memorize and confess it while recuperating after surgery.

8. James 1:3-4 (KJV)

“Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”

  • Patience is a grace we must all pursue, without it, your friend would be fighting a losing battle.
  • God rewards those who wait on him.
  • Don’t worry because those who wait for God will not be disappointed.​
  • Waiting on God means you are taking Him at His word.
Proverbs 18:10 – The Lord is your strong Tower.

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.”

  • A tower speaks of protection, elevation, and strength.​
  • The name of the Lord is a strong tower, and as such, no device of satan, man, or this stubborn condition will destroy your friend.
  • Proverb 18:10 is such a beautiful scripture and I will encourage your friend to keep going.
  • Don’t give up, don’t be overwhelmed, but confess faith in God; declare His promises over your friend’s life daily.
  • Don’t drawback but look to the hills from where will come your friend’s help.

10. Isaiah 40:10 (KJV)

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

  • Your strength is of God, and here Isaiah 41:10 is encouraging you to stand firm and fear not.​
  • It is God who will strengthen your friend, God will go before them, God who will go with them, and it is God who will uphold them during and after the operation.​

11. Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV)

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

  • Fight tooth and nail to resist anxiety and fear. Anxiety is of the flesh manipulated by the devil.
  • When we are anxious, we resist the will of God and embrace the will of the flesh manipulated by satan.​
  • With all your heart, mind, body, and soul find rest and peace in Jesus Christ.​
  • Tell your friend that all is well, and direct their energy to prayer, supplication, praises, and thanksgiving to God.

12. 2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV)

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

  • Fight against fear. God didn’t give us a spirit of fear.
  • Satan will try to manipulate things around us to cause fear.
  • When you allow fear to grip your heart you’re limiting God from intervening on your behalf.​
  • I encourage you to tell your friend to say no to fear at all costs.

13. 1 John 5:14-15 (ESV)

“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”

  • God is interested in answering your prayers according to this verse.
  • God delights in answering the prayers of His saints; for every prayer prayed to Him according to His will, He answers.
  • Don’t allow the devil to rob you of the precious hope and privilege you have in Christ.

14. 2 Corinthians 4:17 (KJV)

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.”

  • Yes, God is glorified when we stands on His words and resists all the attacks of satan like Jesus did in Matthew 4.
  • The pain today will soon pass, but don’t waste your pain, allow God to work in you to bring about an eternal weight of glory.

15. 1 Peter 2:24 (KJV)

“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”

  • Healing is also possible if you believe. Does your friend want to be healed?
  • Encourage your friend to believe, and insist that they are healed.

16. 2 Corinthians 1:9​ (KJV)

“But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead.”

  • Encourage your friend to trust God; He is our heavenly Father who knows how to get us through the roughest phase of life.​
Habakkuk 3:19 – you’re will be rewarded with strength and favor.

“The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me walk upon mine high places.”

  • In this verse, we see that our Father is ruler over all—He is sovereign and the Almighty.​
  • No matter where you are health-wise, your Father will strengthen you, and bless you with stability, mercy, and stamina to do great things.

18. Psalm 23:4 (KJV)

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

The good news: You can trust God with your life because He will not fail you.

Sure, uncertainties are some of the most frustrating times in our lives.​

Not knowing what’s around the corner or what may happen next with your health isn’t necessarily the best position to be in.

But this verse reveals that even in your darkest hour, God will help and see you through the operation.

  • The key to getting through this is not putting your confidence in the doctors.
