Trust and faith are powerful virtues that unite us with God. We know from the Bible that by trusting and believing God, we gain access to His promises. The Bible has many references to trust and faith, and many passages give us ways to develop and maintain these qualities.

What does the Bible say about Trust and Faith?

The Bible tells us that trust is established by our love of God. Psalm 40:4 states “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.” This teaches us that our trust should not waver, no matter how difficult life might be in the moment.

To build faith, Jesus instructs us to stay on the path of righteousness and to never let go of our hope in Him. Matthew 21:21 says “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.”

Many scriptures show us how God provides for us and rewards us for our trust and faith. Isaiah 12:2 says “Surely, God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.” This verse highlights both the confidence in God, as well as His generosity for those who take the plunge and trust Him with their all.

Hebrews 11:1 states that “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” This often-quoted verse reminds us that faith is a part of the human experience, and that it should be embraced as a source of courage and strength.

The Bible is full of references to trust and faith, and it serves to guide us in our relationship with God. Psalm 62 is an encouraging reminder of this when it says: “My Soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation. He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my shelter.”

The Bible doesn’t only tell us to have faith in God, but it also tells us how we can have faith. Jesus explains this in Mark 9:23 when He says: “Everything is possible for one who believes.” This teaches us that with a strong belief in God, anything is possible.

Living and Growing in Faith

Living a life of faith is important, and the Bible provides us with many guides and encouragements to do so. Psalm 84:11 states: “Lord, no one is as mighty as You.” This verse reminds us to put our faith in God and trust His might to provide us with strength and guidance even in our weakest moments.

As we live by faith, we grow ever closer to God and He draws us nearer to Him. Habakkuk 2:4 proclaims: “But the righteous person will live by faith. And if they shrink back, I will not be pleased with them.” This verse serves as a reminder that trusting in God is an important part of living righteously.

The Bible also tells us how to demonstrate our faith. Romans 12:1 says: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” This verse encourages us to honor God with our whole being, to let our faith and trust in Him be known.

Paul encourages us to do the same in Ephesians 4;21 when he says: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” This verse is a reminder that by demonstrating our faith through acts of kindness and righteousness, we can bring glory to God.

2 Corinthians 5:7 reminds us how we can live a life of faith and trust: “For we live by faith, not by sight.” This verse encourages us to have faith even when the path ahead is uncertain. Living by faith allows us to remain focused on God and His promises, even in the darkest of times.

The Characteristics of Trust and Faith

The Bible teaches us to live a life of faith and trust, and it also gives us insights into what these qualities look like. Psalm 146:5 states: “Blessed is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God.” This verse shows us that trusting in God is its own blessing, and a true act of faith.

1 Corinthians 13:13 is another powerful reminder of of the characteristics of trust and faith. This verse says: “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” This teaches us that the key attributes of trust and faith are hope and love, and that of these qualities, love is the purest and truest form.

The Bible is ever-present in reminding us to remain steadfast in our faith, regardless of how tough the journey ahead of us might be. The author of Hebrews, understood this struggle and their words in 12:1 provide us with a valuable reminder: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” This verse encourages us to remain strong in our faith and spirit, and to continue persevering in the path of righteousness God has laid out for us.

The Importance of Trust and Faith

Trust and faith are an essential part of life, but especially so when it comes to our relationship with God. Paul encourages us in 2 Timothy 1:7 by saying: “ For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” This verse reminds us to let go of any fears or doubts, and to trust in God’s love and strength to carry us through.

The Bible also tells us that faith and trust are essential for receiving God’s divine blessings. Hebrews 11:6 says: “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” This verse reveals to us that without faith and trust, God cannot give us the grace and mercy that He has promised.

In addition, the Bible instructs us on how trust and faith can be strengthened. Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” This passage teaches us that with humility and submission to God, we can rely on Him to make our way through difficult times and stay on the right path.

The Bible also explains to us how trust and faith can unite us with God. Jesus speaks to this in John 15:5 by saying: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” This verse reveals to us the importance of having faith and an unshakeable trust in Jesus, as it is only through Him that we can bear the fruit of eternal life.

Living and Sharing the Message of Trust and Faith

The Bible is also clear in encouraging us to share the message of trust and faith with others. Acts 1:8 states: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” This verse instructs us to pass on the message of trust and faith to every corner of the globe, to bring the good news of God to all people.

Matthew 10:32-33 further encourages us to share our faith with others by saying: ““Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.” This teaches us the importance of living by faith, and of sharing our trust in God with those around us.

The bible also instructs us on the power of faith-filled prayer. 2 Kings 20:5 reveals this when it says: “I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you.” This shows us that by having faith in God and praying to Him we can ask for His healing love, and He will give us the strength to persevere.

Finally, Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us this: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” This verse reinforces the importance of trust and faith in our everyday lives. By doing this, we can walk confidently towards the loving grace of God.
