What Jesus Went Through During the Crucifixion?
Jesus’s last hours on Earth before crucifixion were one of immense terror and suffering. Even though he knew his ultimate fate, his worry and fear may have been even more potent as the hours grew nearer. Jesus went through immense pain and sorrow in his last hours, compounded by the utter betrayal he felt from his most beloved disciples and followers. His grappling with the unfairness of the situation, his hurt, his fear, all of that was just a prelude to the depths of physical and mental trauma he was about to experience.
The physical torture of crucifixion was comprehensively punishing and agonizing; only a truly wicked and heinous punishment could be worthy of the label. The flagellation Jesus suffered was one of the most brutal and unimaginable agonies known to humanity. He was whipped 39 times with a flagrum – a very jagged whip – then scourged. This meant that his clothes were torn off and he was hung on a post with leather strips or lead-weighed thongs, and then it literally rained blows. This was designed to be a punishment from which one could potentially die from the internal organ damage it could cause.
The carry of the cross itself was no small trial to bear, for Jesus had deep wounds from the scourging and appeared to have become increasingly weakened in his last few days. The weariness and exhaustion Jesus felt was only compounded by the humiliation and degradation of him stripped, nearly nude, completely exhausted and badly wounded, carrying the heavy cross while being mocked and jeered. But he endured all this humiliation and pain for the hope of getting to his destiny, and that made his suffering even more difficult and trying.
Crowning the entire experience was the actual crucifixion itself. Nails were driven through his wrists in order to secure him to the cross. This act caused immense pain and left him incapable of any movement.Sometimes the feet were nailed too, though most of the times Jesus was tied with leather straps. For the entire crucifixion time, Jesus had to remain in the same uncomfortable upright position, hence it was particularly to excruciating for him especially for how long he had to stay nailed there.
The weight of his body eventually made his lungs too labored to work, and Jesus asphyxiated on the cross – He died of suffocation, not blood loss or shock or heart failure. He was cut from the cross and buried, and three days later the tomb was found to be empty, and that point marked the beginning of the Christian faith. Jesus went through all this physical and mental pain with only the hope that his death would save the world, and that’s a legacy that will never perish.
The Influence Jesus Left Behind
The physical endurance and agony Jesus endured are reminders of the courage, strength, and hope that can be found in times of extreme suffering. From his ordeal, Jesus provided a deep moral lesson to the world – that we should endure evil and suffering with a sense of hope and dignity. By defying injustice, suffering with love and going through every step of his slow death with grand courage, Jesus showed us the power of hope, love, and faith.
The example of Jesus encourages us to keep our faith, stand up for what’s right, and to always find solace in difficult times. By facing injustice calmly and acting with kindness, compassion, and trustworthiness, Jesus reminds us to remain good-hearted and have the courage to do what’s right, no matter the consequences. His legacy of love, hope, and compassion will remain enshrined in the human heart forever.
It has been almost two thousand years since Jesus’s death, but his teachings remain visible in society today. We can still see the results of his influence in the world – in the establishment of churches, of moral norms, of compassion, and of justice. Through his teachings, Jesus has embedded virtues and morality into our everyday lives. He has set an example of love and courage that we can all learn from, and his legacy lives on, even after his physical form has ceased to exist.
The Unfathomable Love and Forgiveness Jesus Extended
The physical pain Jesus endured was almost unbearable, yet throughout his final moments, Jesus put his immense faith in God, and forgave those who caused him this immense suffering. His last words were to God, calling out for Him to forgive them, even though they didn’t know what they were doing. He stayed true to his principles even in the last moments of his life, demonstrating his immense faith and adherence to the phrase “love your neighbor”, even though they had inflicted so much pain on him.
In the midst of the unspeakable agony and torture, Jesus’s heart poured out immense grace, mercy, and love. He did not ask to be taken down from the cross; instead, he chose to stay on it, in order to save the world. His forgiveness inspires us to be humble and to love each other despite the hurt and injustice we face. By his love and forgiveness, Jesus leaves us with a challenge – to extend grace, mercy, and compassion, even when it’s most difficult to do so.
Jesus’s even-tempered and kind-hearted forgiveness exemplified his hope and belief of a better world – where justice will not be judged through any fleeting legal systems, but through divine love and compassion. No matter if we ever fully understand the love and mercy Jesus showed to his enemies, his example continues to serve as a testament that when faced with hatred and adversity, we should always choose love.
The Pain Jesus’ Family Endured
The incredible physical pain Jesus endured doesn’t even factor in the emotional pain his family had to go through. His mother Mary, sisters and brothers were in attendance for his crucifixion, and it was truly one of the most heartbreaking searches the world will ever witness. His mother’s screams, his brothers and sisters utter distress and his friends’ powerlessness are all reminders of how painful and tragic these events were for his loved ones. Despite knowing it was the will of God, his family and followers undoubtedly had to cope with feelings of abandonment.
The sheer shock of witnessing something so cruel and unjust would have been too much for any family to bear. His relatives and followers were utterly devastated, and the grief would have been palpable. The sadness and suffering of a mother and father losing one of their own could hardly be described. Jesus brought a strong sense of security and unconditional love to his family that would have made the situation even harder to cope with.
It was only until Jesus’ Resurrection that the followers and family rejoiced in the immense mercy and love of God. But in the moments preceding his death, Jesus’ family had to suffer the weight of his execution, which would have been unimaginably heavy for those to bear. Despite all the physical and emotional suffering, Jesus’ teachings still shine the light of hope that true evil will always be redeemed and overcome.
The Extreme Moment of Panic and Anxiety Jesus Felt
Counselors, psychologists, therapists, and all types of mental health professionals have devoted their entire careers to trying to understand the complexity and measure the indescribable levels of pain and anguish a human can feel when facing death. And Jesus was fully aware of the impending death awaiting him, and it’s absolutely heartbreaking to comprehend and comprehend and imagine the sheer hopelessness and terror he must have felt when his own felt when his own disciples had abandoned him, and the physical toll he had suffered through was finally coming to a conclusion.
Jesus was the God-man, the only one of its kind, and he knew precisely what was happening. He knew his death was imminent and that everything he had said during his mission would soon be decided – whether the world would be saved or doomed, by his suffering. As the hours grew nearer until his death, Jesus must have experienced immense loneliness, fear, and anxiety as he faced the darkness of death.
